Ambassador Earl Miller 

Former United States Ambassador to Bangladesh and Botswana 

Earl R. Miller was sworn in as the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Botswana on December 18, 2014. Ambassador Miller, a career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service, joined the Department of State in 1987. His previous assignment was Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 2011 to 2014. Ambassador Miller has served in Washington, San Francisco, Miami and Boston and at U.S. embassies in El Salvador, Malaysia, Indonesia, Iraq, and India. 

Ambassador Miller served at the U.S. Embassy in Gaborone from 1995 to 1998 and is honored to have the opportunity to return to Botswana, one of Africa’s great democratic and development success stories and a strong and valued partner with the United States. 

Ambassador Miller is a graduate of the University of Michigan and a former U.S. Marine Corps officer. He is the recipient of the Department of State’s Award for Heroism and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Shield of Bravery. Ambassador Miller speaks French, Spanish, and Indonesian.
