I’m interested in the B/S MHA program, tell me more.
Please review this link to learn about our accelerated BS/MHA program.
BS/MHA eligibility is contingent on a student completing all of their major and college requirements by the end of junior year such that all they have remaining to complete their bachelor’s degree is about 30 elective credits; the first-year MHA core would count as senior year electives.
We recommend that you meet with your academic advisor to apprise them of your plan and see how you can be on track to complete your required coursework early.
Who should complete my BS/MHA application advisor recommendation?
Your advisor recommendation form needs to come from your academic advisor who is aware that you are applying to the BS/MHA. Eligibility verification can be done Sloan Program Director Michael Richards.
I am an international student, how do I submit my transcript?
Information about transcripts here under “other eligibility criteria/application requirements.
A WES evaluation is not required but if the grading system at your baccalaureate institution is widely different from the US’s system, it could be helpful to submit. Here is additional information about international transcripts from the Cornell graduate school.
How do I submit letters of recommendation?
Please submit your recommenders’ name and email into the system and they will automatically receive an email request to upload a PDF LOR into the system. I do not believe there is a timeframe; that will be up to you to establish with your recommenders. Yes, you must submit your application before your LORs are uploaded (your recommenders will not receive the upload prompt until you actually submit.
Do you offer a dual MHA/MBA degree?
Unfortunately, we no longer offer a dual MHA/MBA.
I’m interested in health care and business. Should I apply to Sloan or Johnson?
Apply to either Johnson or Sloan and then take your elective credits in the OTHER program to round yourself out. Student feedback is that Johnson prefers you take Johnson electives whereas Sloan is very flexible with where you take your electives across campus as long as they are related to your career goals. Additionally, Sloan’s tuition is about half that of Johnson. Thus, applying to the MHA (Sloan) and then taking all electives in MBA (and other programs that support your needs such as real estate, design, hospitality, ILR, etc) would give you the healthcare deep dive you need, balanced with other MBA-level leadership and management courses.
I’ve taken graduate credits at another school/Cornell, can I transfer them?
Each MHA student must earn 60 graduate credits while in residence here at Cornell. We do understand that some students have developed strong competencies in key competency areas and so while we do not accept transfer credits, we do permit waivers of MHA core courses when students can verify those competencies.
If you were to attend Cornell and waive a 3 credit core course, you still need 60 grad credits so it means that you would make up those 3 credits with career-related elective credits (e.g., taking more advanced courses in the business school or in real estate or in design or hotel, etc.).
Can you share your class composition/graduation/career placement metrics?
Please see our program metrics and outcomes page here.
Is the MHA STEM-designated?
The Master of Health Administration MHA degree is not STEM designated.
Are test scores required/what is considered a good score?
GRE and GMAT scores are not required but scores at/above the 80th percentile are considered strong. Please see this link for additional MHA application criteria
How can I apply to the dual MHA/MPH program?
Most students apply to MPA and MHA concurrently (apply directly to MPA and indicate a desire for the dual and then your application would be shared with us) to make our concurrent decision. The dual degree supports 90 concurrent credits in 3 years.
Is there a cap for the number of international students you admit? What are you looking for in international students?
We do not cap the number of international applicants we admit, only encourage them to apply early.
We do not have separate requirements for international students and you can read about eligibility and what we are looking for on our website here.
We highly value students who show proactive ability to research our program and see if it is a fit for them (e.g., the MHA degree in general, as opposed to an MPH, for example, and the Sloan MHA specifically). Competitive candidates also show strong academic aptitude as evidenced by excellent grades, especially in relevant and quantitative courses; collaboration and teamwork skills; passion for the field as evidenced by leadership, volunteer, and internship/work experience; and having some “wow factor” that that allows them to stand out.
How can I best prepare for my interview? Can you share the questions?
We don’t share the interview questions ahead of time but rest assured that our interviewer team, made up of Sloan faculty and administrators, are all on your side and interview in a very friendly manner. You can expect 1-2 interviewers on the Zoom call and they are eager to learn more about you.
How can I improve my chances of getting a scholarship?
We have a number of different scholarships available to our students. In order to increase your chances of receiving a Sloan scholarship, make sure you apply as early as possible. You do not need to do anything separately in order to be eligible to receive a scholarship. About 14 students in each cohort receive a scholarship that covers at least 25% of tuition per year for the two years. A typical cohort has 35 students, so about 40% of students receive a scholarship at this level, although the percentage will vary a bit from year to year.
We hope you decide to apply and good luck with your search.
Do I need to apply separately for scholarships?
There is no separate application for our scholarships/fellowships. When we holistically evaluate each application, we look for extraordinary leadership and academic excellence and students’ lived experiences that may demonstrate need. As for industry scholarships, you would apply directly to those. We list just a few examples on our website to get future graduate students thinking about how they might look into these but we also cultivate a running list of industry scholarships. I am happy to share this with you HERE; these are opportunities you could apply to (most during your first year of graduate study to be awarded for your second year), regardless of where you matriculate for graduate school.
