Ariel Ortiz-Bobea is an applied economist interested in how humans cope with environmental change. His fields of interests span agricultural, environmental, resource and development economics and applied econometrics.  His papers focusing on how climate change affects agriculture and the economy have won several research awards.

Professor Ortiz-Bobea serves various editorial roles at the American Journal of Agricultural Economics (AJAE), the Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (JAERE) and Climatic Change. He was recently elected to the board of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (AERE) and was appointed to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Research, Extension, Education, and Economics (NAREEE) Advisory Board.

Professor Ortiz-Bobea earned a BS and MEng from the University of Paris-Saclay, an MPA from Syracuse University and an MS and Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of Maryland – College Park.

Professor Ortiz-Bobea is also a faculty member at the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, and is a Fellow at the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability. He teaches classes in Environmental and Resource Economics and Empirical Methods for Applied Economists.
