Sean Nicholson focuses his research in three areas: the value of new medical technologies; innovation in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries; and the causes of regional variations in medical spending.
Professor Nicholson is the Director of the Sloan Program in Health Administration and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research.
Professor Nicholson has served as an associate editor of Health Economics and as a research director of the Upstate Health Research Network. His research has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of Health Economics, and the Handbook of Health Economics, among many publications.
Prior to his career in higher education, Professor Nicholson worked for four years as a management consultant with APM and taught high school for two years before enrolling in graduate school. He received a B.A. from Dartmouth College and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
