Infrastructure Policy Management and Finance (IPMF) Certificate Program

This certificate program is designed for students who are interested in working in the infrastructure space in planning, finance, project management, and/or operations role, and/or who want to gain a deeper understanding of issues related to infrastructure.

Eligibility

The IPMF program is open to all Cornell graduate students with an interest in infrastructure.

Note: Brooks MPA Students do not need to be in the Science Technology and Infrastructure concentration to earn this certificate.

Applications include the following materials to be sent electronically to John Foote at jhf25@cornell.edu:

  • Resume/CV
  • Statement of purpose–1,000 words (max.)

Application Deadline:

Applications will be accepted until November 4, 2024.

Certificate Requirements

Students pursuing an IPMF certificate will design a Course of Studies that includes the following coursework:

Required courses for the IPMF certificate

  • PAM 5340: Regulation and Infrastructure Policy (Fall)– 3 credits
  • PADM 5755: Infrastructure Finance (Spring) – 3 credits

A least three courses, each of which is focused on one of the following topics:

  • Risk analysis
  • Financial modeling
  • Financial statement analysis
  • Negotiation
  • Project management

Courses need to be approved by John Foote.

Successful completion of a practical experience related to infrastructure, chosen from:

  • Infrastructure practicum (PADM 5757) or
  • An infrastructure-focused internship.

IPMF Fellows meet periodically as a group and are invited to participate in meetings with industry practitioners and in periodic Zoom breakfasts with executives who are working the infrastructure space. Also, the IPMF program works closely with the Cornell Program in Infrastructure Policy which sponsors IPMF Fellows as members of the Young Professionals in Infrastructure organization.
