Programs
The Institute of Politics and Global Affairs has a dual structure with core teams operating in Long Island/Manhattan and in Ithaca.
Through the partnership of Steve Israel, our director based in Metro New York, and Doug Kriner, our faculty director based on Cornell University’s Ithaca campus, we are pursing a collaborative and integrated programmatic agenda that fits within broad and often-overlapping themes and features events in Metro New York and in Ithaca.
The institute seeks to bring together researchers, students, governing officials, policymakers, and interested public citizens to engage the most important challenges in contemporary politics.

2023 IOPGA Peace Games
With the support of a Carnegie grant and in partnership with the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), IOPGA hosted its 3rd Congressional Peace Games and its inaugural Congressional Staff Peace Games in Washington, D.C. Over a dozen Members of Congress from both parties spent a day participating in a simulation involving Ukraine and the future of Europe, while the bi-partisan staffers participated in a simulation involving a humanitarian crisis in Taiwan. Both events were led by facilitators and experts from USIP and Cornell, including LTC Paul Lushenko, PhD. IOPGA continues to expand its relationship with Carnegie and attract more Members of Congress, including representation from both parties.
