About
The Cornell Health Policy Center is a partnership between the Weill Cornell Medicine and the Brooks School of Public Policy that serves as the locus of health policy impact, research, and training at Cornell.
The Center– which is co-led by Dr. Beth McGinty, Chief of the WCM Division of Health Policy and Economics in the Department of Population Health Sciences, and Dr. Colleen Barry, inaugural Dean of the Brooks School– brings together the strong cadre of health policy researchers across Cornell to pursue the mission of using evidence to shape effective health policy at the federal, state, local, and organization levels.
Three Pillars
The Center’s work is organized around three pillars that represent unique, transdisciplinary areas of expertise at Cornell: Health care system financing and organization; health policy communication; and social drivers of health.
Pillar One: Health care system financing and organization
How can policy shape clinician payment, health care system structure, and provider organization to optimize patient and population health and control healthcare spending?
Pillar Two: Health policy and communication
How do we effectively communicate with diverse audiences– including policymakers, interest groups, the public and others– about evidence-based health policy?
Pillar Three: Social drivers of health
How do policies related to social risk and protective factors for health (e.g. education, income, transportation) influence healthcare and population health outcomes?
The pillars serve as the foundation for rigorous and relevant work on timely and applied health policy issues in areas including: (1) long-term care policy; (2) mental health & substance use policy; (3); Medicare policy; (4) Medicaid & safety net policy; and (5) child & family policy.
